Activities

Niche Area of research

  • Bioprospecting of fungi for novel cellulase, auxiliary enzymes for lignocellulosic bioconversion. Industrially important enzymes strain development using proteome and genome based approaches
  • Development of efficient microbial inocula to achieve degradation of common persistent halogenated organic pollutants to improve the efficiency of bio-remediation of polluted ecosystems and existing sewage/effluent treatment plants.
  • Purification and characterization of antimicrobial compounds from Streptomyces spp. active against drug resistant bacteria and fungal phytopathogens, and evaluation of  antimutagenic, antiproliferative, antioxidant DNA protective, insecticidal, nematicidal  and plant growth promoting potential of these organisms and their metabolites.
  • Bioprospecting of endophytic fungi for enzyme inhibitors viz. alpha glucosidase inhibitors, acetylcholinesterase inhihitors etc and evaluation of their pharmaceutical and agriculture potential. The isolated inhibitors are being evaluated for their antidiabetic, insecticidal, antimicrobial activities etc.
  • Explore the potential of lactic acid bacteria isolated from human flora and ethnic fermented foods, for their functional (antimicrobial, anticancer, anti-inflammatory and pro-biotic) properties Purification and characterization of  active secretory metabolites such as proteins, peptides and exo-polysaccharides
  • Active collaborations with International and National research institutes as well as reputed fermentation industries for transfer of the developed technologies to stake holders.
