Publication Bureau (formerly known as Press and Publication Department) was setup in 1972 to cater to the publication needs of the University in terms of highlighting its academic achievements through research journals & books and providing quality textbooks to its students. The university established its own Printing Press in 1979. As the workload and publication demands of the university increased, it completely switched over from letterpress to computerized offset printing. As of now, the department is equipped with offset machines, computers, laser printers and camera in addition to other relating equipments. It is fully capable of undertaking all type of printing requirements of the administrative block, teaching departments, regional campuses and associated colleges of the university. Till date the bureau has published 245 books in Punjabi, 160 in English and 25 in Hindi (list enclosed). Some of these books have also run into subsequent editions. The bureau started with the publication of 2 journals but over the years, the number of journals has increased to 15. Some of the important journals are :

  • Guru Nanak Journal of Sociology
  • Journal of Sikh Studies
  • Personality Study & Group Behaviour
  • Punjab Journal of Politics

Most of these journals have achieved international recognition and are being exchanged with the reputed journals of other universities and research institutes. The department has also setup a retail outlet for the sale of its publications. Book exhibitions on various occasions are organized to encourage reading habits among the masses. The book lovers can purchase university publications upto 40% discount. Special discount on the university publications is also offered every year on the eve of university foundation day.

As of now, the Department has three offset machines, thirteen computers, three laser printers, one camera and photo typesetting unit in addition to other press equipments. It is fully capable to undertaking any printing jobs and has offered its services to the affiliated colleges and government, other institutions and universities in the state. Till date the Department has published 120 books in Punjabi, 110 in English and 14 in Hindi. Some of these books have also run into subsequent editions. The department started with the publication of 2 journals, but over the years, the number of journals has increased to 14. Some of these journals have achieved international recognition. The Department has also set up a retail outlet for the sale of its publications. To promote sales, it takes part in book Exhibition and runs a Book Club. The members can purchase University publications at 50% discount plus 10% bonus in the form for books. The Department has also been running a two year postgraduate Diploma in Printing Technology and Management.
